Week 7 - Analyzing an Exchange
Due: 1pm, FRIDAY, October 12; must be uploaded to dropbox
In this short assignment, I'm asking you to briefly describe and then analyze an exchange in which you've taken part. It could be something as everyday as using a credit card to buy groceries -- in fact, as we've discussed, anthropological attention is well-suited to consider the "everyday." Or you could pick a less common, or more ritualized, exchange, like a part of a religious ceremony. Use the lecture on “Gifts and Exchange” to critically analyze the exchange you describe. In addition to the actions of the people involved, what was being accomplished in this exchange? In this I'm asking you to describe the social results of an exchange in which you participated. Please make your description and analysis at least 300 words total.
