This week, I’m asking you to search the internet for a specific representation of Japan, Japanese people, or Japanese culture that directly traffics in a “national character” argument. (We will discuss this term a lot in class this week.) Find an example in something - a newspaper, blog, etc. - and describe it to me, your reader. You are also welcome to attach the example to your response. In detail, explain how this demonstrates a “national character” argument. What is happening? What is the example saying explicitly? What is the example implying? Be sure to articulate the characteristics of a “national character” argument and explain where / how you see them in your example.
